Interested in becoming a Doula?

A doula is someone who provides non-clinical support and care to families during childbirth and the postpartum period. Isn't it time you worked in a career you LOVE?

Become a doula through the AOD*.

The Association of Ontario Doulas is thrilled to have partnered with Medix College to provide Birth and Postpartum Doula Training to people interested in becoming doulas. Our Birth Doula training is taught by DONA approved trainers Stefanie Antunes and Melissa Cowl. Our Postpartum Doula Training is taught by CAPPA approved trainer Kimberly Healey-Fernandez. We're excited to help you move forward on the very special path of becoming a doula.

*A portion of each training will go back to the AOD to support member benefits.

What's the Certification Process?

Please check the DONA International and CAPPA websites for full information about current steps. When you leave our training you will be able to immediately work as a doula. That hands-on experience will be part of the steps to becoming a certified Doula.

Training will include:

  • Taught by highly experienced doulas who've been working for over a decade in Ontario
  • Comprehensive information on the role and scope of a doula
  • Qualifies you to become a member of the Association, which includes many benefits such as liability insurance
  • Includes training on the business side of working as a doula

Other Approved Training Organizations

If you would prefer to train outside the AOD we have approved a number of organizations that meet our strict training standards. In order to choose the best training organization for you, please examine each organizations vision and mission statements, speak to the trainers and decide which one best fits with you.
